‘HIPPS’ means ‘High Integrity Pressure Protections Systems’, and can be used on both onshore and subsea pipelines and wells.

HIPPS can safely isolate downstream flowlines and risers from the high tubing shut-in pressure and therefore allow the downstream facilities (pipelines and components) to be designed to more conventional pressures (i.e., a lower pressure than the well shut-in pressure).

The HIPPS protects the pipeline from a high pressure, by using a very high reliability control system that closes the valve between the pipeline and the wellhead if it detects an unacceptable rise in pressure.
